The room scanning experience on the Meta Quest headsets is an exciting experience for a technical goal. I used a deep understanding of the technology to craft a visual feedback system allowing everyday users to succeed. Every aspect of the shader was tuned to communicate the algorithm's needs intuitively to the user.

Beautifying Perception Data on a Budget

The passthrough transition effect, based on real-time depth, adds delight and value. I processed coarse and noisy depth data to a signal that could ship, and designed the pleasing effect to unify system design language.

Bespoke Solutions for a Unique Interaction

Virtual content anchoring onto the real world, without the need to scan first. I created an algorithm allowing reliable surface detection in real time. The processing is intertwined with the multi-modal user interaction, ensuring success. For the first time in the native Quest OS, users can interact with the real world instead of just seeing it.
